First Stop! aims to provide resources and content to help teaching professionals incorporate the organ and its music into lessons, workshops and other school activity.
The organ can be a focus for education across the curriculum. Learning about the instrument itself can range from primary school teachers introducing younger children to this astonishing instrument (an experience which is rarely forgotten) to specialist music teachers looking to broaden their students’ musical experience and understanding.
But the organ’s unique qualities also make it an innovative and memorable way of teaching many other subjects in today’s curriculum for all age groups – as well as music it is widely used to teach science, technology, art and design, for example.
Please note: This area of First Stop! is currently under development, with new Key Stage / age-specific content being planned. As part of this process, we welcome suggestions from teachers and other educators about resources, topics and materials that would support your teaching and curriculum needs. Please send comments or suggestions to firststop@rco.org.uk.
